Man Falls Asleep During DUI Stop In Darien: Police

A man was arrested after he was pulled over for allegedly driving drunk – and fell asleep during the stop, police said.

Rafael Guerrero, age 32 of the Bronx, was arrested after he allegedly drove drunk in Darien, falling asleep during his interrogation, police said.

The Fairfield County incident happened on Thursday, Jan. 18 in the town of Darien, according to the Darien Police Department.

At approximately 5:30 a.m., 32-year-old New York City resident Rafael Guerrero, of the Bronx, was reportedly seen driving drunk, crossing over the double yellow lines on Post Road, near Norton Avenue.

When he was pulled over, police observed that Guerrero seemed confused and spoke slowly.

In the time it took for the officer to walk back to Guerrero’s vehicle from the cop car, he had fallen asleep and needed to be woken up again.

After a failed sobriety test, Guerrero was arrested.

He was additionally found to have a warrant out for his arrest in Rhode Island.

Guerrero was charged with:

  • Operating under the influence;
  • Failure to drive right; and
  • Fugitive from justice.

He was held on a $100,000 bond and is due to appear in court on Wednesday, Feb. 7.
